Don't Forget to Say, "Thank You"

One of the biggest mistake for job seeks is to not follow up an important interview with a thank you note to the people who interviewed them. Human Resources experts note that as few as 10% of interviewees take the time to say, "thank you." Let's take a look as why writing a thank you is the right thing to do and list some tips on how to write one.

If you are a candidate for a particular position you need every edge possible to land a job. Writing a thank you note is important because:

1. It reinforces your interest in the position.

2. A note shows your professionalism and suggests that you are organized, reliable, and efficient. It also underscores that you know how to deliver a personal touch. If your job is in customer service, companies will see the note as especially advantageous.

3. It proves that you understand proper business protocol.

For two candidates of equal strength and competency, the thank you note may be the tiebreaker people of hiring authority will use when selecting the winning candidate.

Content of Your Thank You Note

Your thank you note should mention the following:

1. Reiterate your interest in the position.

2. Reiterate one key point of the interview. For example, if you learned that the company is launching a new product line the following year and you will have an important part in its launch, you could state how you will further the goals of the company in helping to roll out the new product line.

3. Stress that you are looking forward to a follow up meeting. Optional: Tell the person you are writing to that you will contact them within a certain time to follow up.

You can either type or print your note. If you type, use standard business paper and a matching envelope. If you write, a thank you note card or a generic card are acceptable. Be careful not to get anything too flashy unless your field is flashy {e.g., the fashion industry}. Email isn't wrong, but you have no guarantee that the person will receive your note unless you request a return receipt. Approximately eighty percent of all email is spam; why risk having your thank you note lost in a junk mail folder?

In this age of strict competition for plum positions, you cannot afford to not say thank you in writing. Give yourself every edge possible and use the thank you note as your opportunity to show potential employers why they should hire you.

Getting Your Home Business Enterprise off to a Good Start

When you have taken the first step to strike out on your own with a home based business, it is particularly important that you set a high standard for yourself by setting realistic goals and a solid a plan to work with. It is alright to start your home business on a part-time basis, and is often actually preferable. But while it is o.k. to do it part time in the beginning, you can't do it in your spare time. You have to work a set number of hours each week if you wish to fulfill your goals. I suggest you have a clear set of standards and protocals set up to guide you through every situation. That is what the successful corporations do and you would do well to follow their proven example. Even though your home business will start out small, you should treat it like a big business. That means detailed planning, properly entity selection and so on. This will give your business room to grow. Think of it as a tree that must be watered until mature. But once mature it may bear fruit for many years and require far less effort to maintain.

If you have made the jump to entrepreneur, you probably know that you are a little different from most other people. This is because there are certain clearcut differences between employees, the self employed and individuals who are business home owners.

Those who are employees usually seek security. They often feel that they must have a paycheck and believe that being their own boss, investing in their own home-based business is just too risky.

You could even say that they are addicted to getting a paycheck.

People who are self employed, like plumbers or doctors fall into another category completely. They are usually perfectionists who think that they and only they can 'get the job done right'. But when such a person goes on vacation, so does his income. But as a home business owner, you know that you are cut from a slightly different cloth. Other people may openly wonder how you can operate without the mental safety net of a paycheck. But you secretly know that no job is completely safe anyway.

Quiz- Do You Sell Yourself To The Customer?

Sales is one of the most exciting professions. It is also one of the toughest professions. Selling to customers can be a real task. If by any chance, you get a tough buyer, you will need all the training to sell to him/her. Let me ask you - do you sell yourself as a person of integrity and honesty to your buyers? Or you focus only on your product? Let me ask you one question- do you think that your bus the product only because of the value of the product? Or because your buyer believes in you and thinks that you will not sell anything bad to them? What do you think hen you buy anything? Who is selling to you does affect you. Am I right?

How to sell yourself to your buyer? Let us examine that. Do you come across as a person who knows the subject? Are you ready with all the answers or always need time to refer back with the answer. Can you tell your buyer about the competitive products in as much detail as you can do for your product? Are you sure that your buyer is good for your customer or you sell it to get only the commission or earn the salary?

Do you know your regular buyers habits? Do you know about their family and other personal details? Do you talk to your buyer as a hard headed professional or as a friend who knows what is best? Do you come across as a honest person? What is the image of the company for which you are working? Are your promises of after sales service are always fulfilled or you forget the buyer after making the sale? Does your buyer believe your words? Does your buyer think that you area person of character? If you can do that, you can raise your commissions to any limit.

You Don't Have To Quit Your Job - To Be Your Own Boss

I'm constantly seeing articles about how you should quit your job and start your own business. I wont' argue with that -- being your own boss is a terrific experience and can give you the time and financial freedom you've always wanted.

But the plain truth is that most of us NEED our jobs to pay the mortgage, the rent, our car payments, insurance premiums -- you name it! If we didn't have that check coming in on a regular basis, we'd probably be living on a street corner somewhere.

Traditionally, you would have to save a little each month for years to get enough to live on while you start your business. Another way to do it would be to work for someone else in the same business you want to start. You can learn the ropes while still earning a paycheck. When it's time to quit and begin your business, you'll be miles ahead.

But let me give you a more modern alternative that works better than any of these: work a part-time job from home that lets you build a FULL-TIME income. You keep working your regular job while you start your part-time business on the weekends, after work, or in the morning before you go to work.

Even a few years ago this would have been a slow way to get your business started. But now, incredible online automation and outsourcing lets you run your home-based business in as little as an hour per week.

How does that work? Let me show you.

Instead of calling, advertising, and sending letters to prospects, you can let fully automated online sites gather hot leads for you. Then, instead of spending hours in meetings and phone chats, you can have those leads automatically turned over to a professional sales team who turns the serious leads into paying customers.

About all you have to do is collect your commissions. And these days, those commissions can be HUGE. Forget the $20 and $50 paychecks you got in the past. These days modern automated systems can deliver $1,000 to $3,000 or more PER SALE!

Think about it for a minute. Using this type of automated/outsourced strategy, you could keep your current job while you earn an even larger income working just a few hours per week in your spare time.

This is a great way to either begin a fun, serious business of your own, or simply DOUBLE or TRIPLE the income you're bringing in with your current job.

Keep your job AND be your own boss if you like. It's all possible today on the Internet.

An Effective Resume

Your resume is your sales person. Long before you personally get to meet a potential employee or have an interview your resume will be fighting your corner on your behalf. It is essential, then, that you create an effective resume. Your resume will be one of hundreds, if not thousands, that employers will see so you should ensure that it really stands out and promotes your services. The exact approach your resume will take will depend on you and your circumstances.

School leavers and graduates will not have very much in the way of work experience to place on a resume. If you fall into this category then you should pay particular attention to your academic achievements. Point out any other facts pertaining to your school life and the rest of your life that can be drawn on when you get a job. If you successfully completed work experience then include this and give details of the tasks you performed.

On the other hand if your experience has been gained in the work place and you have little in the way of formal qualifications then you should use your employment history to your advantage. Talk about the roles in a little more detail and describe the tasks you undertook. The more advanced or the more trusted a particular role was, the more you should draw upon that in your description.

A highly effective resume will also include an accomplishment section with each qualification or job section that is relevant. You can include graduation, or you could include particular work related accomplishments. Remember, there is a chance that somebody else has equal skills or qualifications to yourself but by using your accomplishments as your main benefit you will still stand out and make a positive impression. As well as your covering letter your resume is the most important thing you have in your bid to win a job.
